Keila cluster housing

Erasmus project | EKA | 2023

As part of the semester, an urban analysis was conducted in Keila, a small town within the wider catchment area of Tallinn. Based on this analysis, a site for targeted development was identified. My focus was on the central town square, which currently does not live up to its full potential. The surrounding built fabric is characterized by single-family houses and residential blocks, while car traffic and parking areas dominate the public space.

The aim of the design was to challenge the existing typology through a multi-generational cluster that promotes community interaction and the shared use of resources. On the ground floor, a café, bar, fitness studio, and local shops open up towards the street and the square, activating the public realm. A semi-private courtyard and sheltered green spaces provide a high quality of stay and areas for social interaction. Circulation is organized around a central core, and all areas are designed to be fully barrier-free.

Keila cluster housing

Eramsus project | EKA | 2023

As part of the semester, an urban analysis was conducted in Keila, a small town near Tallinn, leading to the selection of the central town square as a site for development. Currently dominated by cars and parking, the area lacks spatial and social quality. The project proposes a multi-generational cluster that reinterprets the existing typology, activating the ground floor with public uses and creating shared, barrier-free spaces that promote community and interaction.
