Orientation and wayfinding play an essential role in educational buildings, as they shape how spaces are perceived, understood, and used. Universities are not only places of movement but also environments of learning, interaction, and discovery. This project focuses on the realization of a guiding and wayfinding system for the Architecture Department of Hochschule Darmstadt.

The aim is to go beyond conventional signage and develop a system that actively contributes to the students’ learning experience. Instead of merely directing users from one place to another, the guiding system is conceived as an educational tool that encourages spatial awareness, orientation skills, and an understanding of architectural principles.

By integrating guidance into the architectural context of the building, the system responds to spatial sequences, materials, and structural elements. It supports intuitive navigation while simultaneously inviting students to engage with the building as a learning object. The project explores how wayfinding design can mediate between function and pedagogy, transforming everyday movement through the university into an opportunity for reflection, exploration, and architectural learning.
